Tubtim Shrine

The Tubtim Shrine also known as the penis shrine was formerly located within the grounds of the Swissotel on Nailert Road in central Bangkok but has now been moved to the Nailert Heritage Home which is next door. The shrine is in honor of a female spirit Chao Mae Tubtim. The shrine contains many phalluses of all sizes in wood and stone often decorated with ribbons or garlands. Note that since the relocation of the shrine it has been reported that some of the phalluses have been removed.

Wooden Phalluses Stone Phalluses

In Thailand, the Phallus is considered a symbol of fertility and good luck. Women visit the shrine when they are trying to become pregnant. They leave offerings of jasmine garlands, lotus buds, and incense sticks and touch or brush themselves against the phallic symbols in the hope of being granted their wish. If their wish is granted they are supposed to return and leave an offering of a phallic symbol as a thank you, as according to legend, Tubtim prefers phallic objects.
